...one must, under the appearance of listening, pass over what was said. 7. If the opinion of the majority turneth against the opinion of one man, it behooveth that one to keep silence, and not to strive to maintain his [own] opinion. For from his insistence it would appear as though all the others were ignorant, and understood not the force of his words; but rather, it behooveth him to adopt the opinion of the majority, and in no wise to show displeasure or a sullen countenance, as if they had made no account of his counsel and had not approved [it], but had done [only] as they knew. 8. If that which was confirmed by the consent of the majority should chance upon some mishap and succeed not, it behooveth not anyone from among the assembly afterwards to say: "They followed not my counsel, they hearkened not unto my words, and therefore it succeeded not." For such words are a token of pride, and make a man odious. 9. After the assembly is dismissed, it behooveth [them] to keep the counsel secret, and to speak naught concerning it, so that busybodies and inquisitive men...
