CHAPTER XV: Rules of Conduct with [One’s] Parents.

When a child comes to know himself, first and foremost he loveth his own person; but thereafter, when he perceiveth that his parents show compassion and care toward him, he beginneth to love them also. And lo, from this proceedeth the loving of all his benefactors, the first of whom is God, who hath created and doth preserve him. After that [come] also those who confer other benefits, such as prelates, priests, and other ecclesiastics, who bestow upon him saving counsels; likewise temporal rulers, who exercise guardianship over him and his nation; and schoolmasters, who have educated [such children] and taught [them] to write and read, as well as the worship of God; and masters of crafts, who have taught a trade or commerce, whereby they earn their livelihood. But when he beginneth to love his own self, he desireth that his own will be done; then a man's [duty is] his parents and his Creator tru[ly...]
