CHAP[TER] 17: Rules for [Proper] Conduct with Spiritual Pastors.

Just as kings and princes strive for our bodily well-being, so that we may be [both] peaceful and secure upon the earth, in like manner the spiritual pastors ever care and labor for our spiritual benefit, that we may be glorious and blessed in the world to come. 1. We are therefore obliged to acknowledge their irreplaceable benefactions, and from the bottom of our hearts to respect and venerate [them], for they teach us the salvific laws [and] commandments of God, the life-giving doctrines of Christ, and the preachings of the holy apostles. Whence the Apostle saith: *"Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine"* (I Tim. 5:17). 2.
