Second, by nation-hatred [discord among compatriots], turmoil and disunion reign throughout the entire nation; wherefore the father, instead of covering the fault of his son, looketh to find some fault in him and reproacheth [him]. Likewise the son also, instead of showing honor and assistance to his father, striveth to show enmity. The brother deemeth the small fault of his brother great, and the companion imputeth blame upon his companion unjustly. And in such manner they stir up dispute and strife; they cast aside profitable admonitions and exhortations, and bring ruin upon one another. Third, by nation-hatred, the miserable and wretched persons are left abandoned; the mercy and care needful for the poor and the destitute are not rendered; the orphan and the widow are forsaken. For every man so conceiveth in his mind as if he were born for himself alone, and not for his fellow also; wherefore he looketh only unto his own good living, and the indigent cometh not at all into [his] mind...
