Be sweet-tempered toward the stranger, [and] a compassionate benefactor toward mankind. Show thy countenance ever cheerful unto whatsoever man born of woman. Pronounce not a judgment concerning any matter whatsoever without having been a thorough investigator. Love men without [regard to] thine own profit; forgive the errors of him that trespasseth against thee. Be circumspect and searching in choosing a friend [who shall be] ever intimate unto thee. Maintain friendship with the good, [and] love and sweetness toward all. Be forbearing toward thy friend regarding his human failing. Judge not anyone, according to the commandment, that men also judge thee not. Be not inquisitive concerning the stranger, as to how he may conduct his life. Recount not unto others thine own deeds which look unto the praise of thine own self. Beneficence, in the matter of rewards, shalt thou bestow with discernment unto the worthy. In the prosperous success of fortune, be thou never unmindful of thine own self. Be a fellow-sufferer in the afflictions of the unfortunate,
