V. If it should come to pass that an Ecumenical Council be convened to resolve any religious disputes, we acknowledge as the president of this council the successor to blessed Petros, the head of the faith, according to the example of our holy ancestors; in which sense the holy Church sings concerning the holy Apostle Petros: “Head of the holy faith, foundation of the Church.” VI. Concerning the procession of the Holy Spirit, we accept [it] according to the confession of Lusaworich‘ [the Illuminator], of which he says: “The Father of Himself, the Son from the Father, the Holy Spirit from Them and in Them.” Now, our difference from the Romans [Catholics] at present is this: First, that we sing the *Trisagion* [“Holy God”] with the addition of “Who wast crucified” in this manner: “Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal Son, Who wast crucified for us, have mercy on us.” Second, we perform the sacrament of the holy liturgy with unblemished [pure] wine, explicitly not mixing water into the chalice. Therefore, henceforth we have no communion whatever with the Church of the Ejmiatsnakan [Echmiadzin-adherent] Armenians, but under the authority of our own head of the nation [millet-bashi], we freely serve Jesus Christ and our own consciences, according to the commandment of the Lord. Wherefore, by inward conviction and with a clean conscience, we sign and seal this document of orthodox confession with vows and an oath; whereby we also earnestly entreat the protective government of the great Ottoman [Empire] to grant us a head of the nation from among the faithful subjects of His August Majesty's Dominion; which, without regard to the religions of individual persons, equally cares for all those who are sincerely loyal to its mighty and justice-loving government. To which we remain faithful, tax-paying subjects of the mighty Ottoman Dominion, [we] the Lusaworch‘akan [Illuminator-following] Armenians.
