[of] our Lord Jesus Christ: “If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever” (John xiv. 15); and, “The Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” (ibid. [26]). Now, candid reader, consider the slanderous falsehoods of their erroneous writings: if these [men] were trueborn sons of our holy Father Grigor Lusaworichʻ, the most beneficent Patriarch—as are the faithful, unerring sons of the Mother See of the Holy Catholic Apostolic Church of Miatsnaēj—they would indeed, rejecting erring doctrines and all fictitious slanders, have followed the luminous-pathed doctrine of our holy Father Grigor Lusaworichʻ, whereby he admonisheth and teacheth to depart and shrink back from all soul-destroying vain babbling and from erring doctrines: “Let us cease,” saith he, “from vain and idle disputation, and let us follow after the admonitions of the Holy Scriptures, of the Old and of this New [Covenant]; for ‘I am [He],’ saith God, ‘and there is none other that declareth righteousness; for in Him we live, and move, and have our being.’ Let us hearken unto Him who saveth us from all perils and translateth [us] into the kingdom of heaven . . . . And the nurture of the Gospel is ever necessary to instruct us in the orders of virtue, so that, tended by the graces of the Holy Spirit, we may in truth increase the fruits of righteousness with a pure heart and orthodox faith in God. And by the oversight of the providential love of God, let us ever be watchful and vigilant against the delusions of the slanderer” (Yachakhapatum, Discourse II). If these very writers of slander were trueborn sons of Lusaworichʻ our holy Father Grigor, in whose name alone they boast, it were fitting for them to follow his luminous-pathed, sound, and orthodox doctrine; and furthermore, if they recognized him as the First-Hierarch and God-chosen High Priest of the Armenian nation, it behoved them to show, with steadfast and sincere love, their submission and filial devotion toward the Holy Mother See of Ējmiatsin and toward the lawful, elected Holy successors of his God-chosen great High Priesthood, even as the trueborn [sons] do show
