[... of the] truth the holy Patriarchs confessed: "An emanation proceeding forth inseparably from the Father; with the same, ever co-glorified eternally with the Son." Hast thou seen, well-intentioned reader, that the true-born sons of the Apostolic Church of the Armenians are ever found in concord and in unison with the holy Fathers of the holy Ecumenical Councils? For in the Council of Nicaea they said this alone: "We believe in the Holy Spirit." But in the Council of Constantinople, with an addition, it was decreed thus: "We believe also in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and the Life-giver, Who proceedeth from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is co-worshipped and co-glorified." Therefore, the orthodox and holy Apostolic Church of the Armenians, following the Holy Scriptures and the ancient sacred Patriarchs, and especially the three holy Ecumenical Councils, by [full] rights and by orthodox doctrine confesseth the procession of the Holy Spirit [as being] *from the Father*.
Behold, recognizing all these orthodox rights of the holy Apostolic Church of Armenia, in the eighth century the justice-loving Pope of the Church of Rome, Levon III, issued a universal decree that no one should dare at all to add to the Creed of Faith the particle "from the Son" [Filioque]; but, he said, "let it remain according to the original text, lest, being regarded as a newly-introduced doctrine, it should cause some confusion." Thereafter, no one dared to join and attach "and from the Son" to the Creed until the thirteenth century, as is also written in the decrees of the Popes. Especially is it manifest to all that even Pope Ewginēos IV in no wise demanded of our nation to add to the Creed this particle "from the Son," "Because," he said, "the Armenians have powerful reasons and proofs for not accepting the particle 'from the Son'." And this thou canst find, if thou wilt, in the written works of this truth-loving Pope Ewginēos, whose letter of love to our Armenian nation beginneth thus: "Rejoice in God, our helper."
Verily, well-intentioned readers, with what intent, indeed, do the fabricators of these babbling articles wander hither and thither to seek after novel and fabricated doctrines, and thus to deceive the simple-minded; especially since, for these undertakings of theirs, they seek not the aid of Divine power, crying out according to the prophet Dawitʻ: "My help shall come from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth" (Ps. 120 [121]:2). And neither do they hasten to follow...
