Art. 17. The Patriarch of Jerusalem is the life-long occupant of the Throne of S[urb] Yakob; at the same time, [he] is the director of the pilgrimage places located in Jerusalem belonging to the Armenian Nation, and the president of the Brotherhood of the Monastery of S[urb] Yakob. It is his duty to act according to the provisions of the constitution of the Monastery of S[urb] Jerusalem, and to watch over its proper execution. Art. 18. If the Patriarch of S[urb] Jerusalem acts contrary to the constitution of the Monastery of Holy Jerusalem, he shall fall under accusation. Art. 19. Article Seventeen: The Patriarch of Quds-i Şerîf is established in the seat of Mar Yaqub for the term of [his] life, and is the director of the pilgrimage sites of the Armenian Nation situated in Quds-i Şerîf, and the superior of the monastic congregation of the Mar Yaqub Monastery; and his duty consists of acting in conformity with the rules and regulations of the said monastery, and devoting [strict] attention to the proper execution of the observed articles.
