It is desirable that the will and execution to follow this good example be manifested by our spiritual authority, and that the study of medicine also be imparted in a concise manner to those preparing for the priesthood. Behold, moved by the circumstances mentioned above, I made bold to dedicate this *Tanu bzhishk* [Home Physician] to the afflicted of my beloved nation. I am well persuaded that my labor, however imperfect it may be in its kind, can for the present—so long as more select and complete popular medical manuals have not yet been published in our language—render benefit by explaining the symptoms of diseases, [their] prevention, and the method of administering ready remedies. It remains for me and for every zealous Armenian to desire that our learned and highly skilled physicians of the Armenian nation dedicate to their beloved nation separate writings upon the various branches of medicine, whereby the people will gradually become accustomed to seek the origin and cause of diseases in the laws of nature, and not make their life a plaything of superstitions.
