[...people], when heated and exhausted, must not lie down or sit in the open air, by day or by night, nor in a cold and damp place; they must change their sweat-drenched clothes immediately, and not go outside at night thinly clad. 2. They must beware of heavy or spoiled foods, which are very harmful both to the sick and to the healthy. Although the moderate use of ripe fruits is beneficial to healthy persons—because it purges the corrupted bile and protects [them] from this sort of disease—the sick person, however, must not be permitted to eat [them] until he has completely recovered; but unripe fruit is generally harmful to everyone. 3. One stricken with this affliction must be removed from healthy persons and kept in a separate room; the air of his bedchamber must be frequently refreshed by opening the window or the doors. 4. They must feed [him] a soup of well-cooked rice or groats with a little butter or good [olive] oil, as well as the cooled broth of well-boiled calf’s or sheep’s trotters. 120. In place of water, they should have [him] drink chamomile flower water, or a decoction of marshmallow root, or the well-boiled and strained water of groats. On the contrary, heating and fortifying things are harmful; for example: wine, arak, cinnamon tea, nut[meg...]
