If anyone has a putrid fever. 13. If anyone has fine eruptions [breaking] out upon the body. When necessity requires bloodletting, one ought not to draw more than 50 to 100 *mskhal*s—it is better to draw [it] little by little, two or three times, than all at once and in great quantity, whereby the patient would lose his strength. If there be no phlebotomist, and necessity should demand it, they may apply fifteen or twenty leeches to the nape of the neck, to the back, or wherever it is necessary. Paying regard to the patient's constitution, if the blood be copious, more may be drawn. From a person of feeble strength, the blood must be drawn [while he is] reclining. If fainting should occur at the time of bloodletting, let them immediately open the window and the door so that the air inside the house may be refreshed; and let them wet the hand in cold water [and] sprinkle [it] upon the face, let them cause [him] to smell vinegar, give [him] cold water to drink into which a little vinegar has been dropped, and lay [him] down afterward.
