Take dried rose petal[s] and *barts’venik* [pellitory/chamomile], half a handful of each; or whichever [of the two] you may find, put one handful of it into a tinned vessel and pour boiling water over it, four cups, [leaving it] until it cools; then strain [it] and give [it] five times a day, one small cup [*p’ndzhan*] each [time].

Number 44.

Take freshly gathered pellitory [or: *andzrkhot*], chicory root, and sorrel, one handful of each; wash [them] well, so that no earth remains upon them. Then pound [them] dry in a wooden vessel. Strain [the juice] through a fine cloth and have the patient drink [it], three times a day, one cup each [time]. If the patient be feeble or of a delicate constitution, then give this herbal extract a single boil, and have [him] drink [it] thus, which will be more beneficial than a decoct[*]; [it] must be used in this manner for up to fifteen days.

Number 45:

Take one handful each of flaxseed and hemp seed, or half a handful each of sweet almond[s] and poppy [seed], or whichever of these may be at hand; pound [them] well, and while pounding, pour cold water over it little by little, six cups [in all]. Strain [it], then mix into it two *miskal*s of saltpeter and two *miskal*s of sugar, or two spoonfuls of good honey (if thou canst not find saltpeter, make [it] without it, from almond milk or from the aforementioned seeds), and give the patient two spoonfuls to drink every hour.

Number 44.

Take of flaxseed and hempseed one handful each; or of sweet almonds and poppy seed half a handful each; or whichever of these happen[s to be at hand]; pound [them] well, and whilst pounding, pour upon [them] cold water, little by little, six cupfuls; strain [it], [and] then mix into it two miskals of niter and two miskals of sugar, or two spoonfuls of good honey (if thou canst not find niter, prepare [it] without it from almond milk or the aforementioned seed[s]), and give the patient to drink two spoonfuls every hour.

[Number] 47:

Take a handful of barley, put [it] in a clean vessel, pour over it six cups of hot water, boil [it] well, strain [it], mix into it two spoonfuls of oxymel (see number 25), and give [it] to the patient to drink frequently, half a cup at a time.

Number 48.

Take two handfuls of barley; put [them] into a clean vessel, pour over them half a *t’ung* of water, and boil [it]. After straining [it] well, pour into it two *mskhal*s of saltpeter and four spoonfuls of oxymel (see number 25), and have the patient drink [it] frequently, by half-cups at a time. It will abate the heat, and quench the thirst, and discharge the urine.

* This medicine is prepared only in the summer, and it must be made anew every day, because this extract spoils quickly.
