“By day let it give shade to my fortress, by night let it give light to my city.” I will be a servant to the cross of Karos. Mahmad [and] Ali arose [and] departed; they struck the villager with a stick. They brought news to the great prince—God bless that prince! He called Mahmad, he called Ali, [and] said: “I will make a request to the Kurdish Baron, I will make an entreaty to the Kurdish Baron; he has no business with the cross of the Armenians. If he wants gold, here is gold; if he wants silver, here is silver. As for the cross—it is [our] gold [and] silver; do not lay a hand on the cross of Karos!” I will be a servant to the cross of Karos.
