They took word to the Kurdish Paron; Mahmad raged, Ali raged. May I be a servant to the Cross of Karos! That apostate dog of a vizier, He put [the thought] into the mind of the Kurdish Paron; He said: "That is not the doing of the Cross of Karos, That is the doing of the Armenian nation." The Kurdish Paron took it to heart; He arose, stood upon the tower of the fortress, He raised a call within his fortress, He also sent a cry through his city; He said: "Arise, muster the troops, Go forth against the Cross of Karos!" May I be a servant to the Cross of Karos! He arose, gathered seven regiments of troops, [And] set [them] on the road against the Cross of Karos. They went, they reached the middle of the plain; The vanguard turned upon the rearguard, The rearguard turned upon the vanguard, They bit their own skin with their teeth.
