My days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are dried up like kindling. I am smitten like grass, and my heart is withered; I have forgotten to eat my bread by reason of the voice of my groaning. My bone has cleaved to my flesh; I have become like a pelican of the wilderness. I have become like an owl in a ruin; I have watched and become like a solitary sparrow upon the roof. My enemies have reproached me all the day, and those who praised me swore by me. For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping, because of the face of your wrath and your indignation; for you have lifted me up and cast me down. My days have declined like a shadow, and I am withered like grass. But you, Lord, endure forever, and your remembrance from generation to generation. You shall arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is the time to have compassion on her, [yea], the hour has come.
