And when evening had come, since it was Friday—that is, the day before the Sabbath—Joseph of Arimathea came, a noble councilor, who was also himself waiting for the kingdom of God. Taking courage, he went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and having summoned the centurion to him, he questioned him, saying whether he had been dead for so long. And when he learned [the truth] from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. And Joseph bought fine linen, and taking him down, wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. And Mary Magdalene and Mary [the mother] of James and Joses saw the place where he was laid.
