[He] created man in His own image on the sixth morning; and at the third hour He gave the rib-born as a helper unto the dust-born, whom He placed in the paradise to enjoy [it], yet forbade [them] from the fruit of death. The old Adam was struck speechless before the Judge after the transgressions; placing the cause of deception upon the woman, and the woman upon the treacherous serpent, whereby this earth was cursed, and thorn and thistle sprouted in it; the sentence of death was given unto man, to return to the dust from whence he was created. The Father of glory hastened to blot out the record of debt of our transgressions, whereby the compassionate Son clothed Himself in the sixth age with the body of sin; by the Father’s good pleasure He came willingly to the death of the cross on the Friday; the Lamb was slain at the ancient Passover in place of the figurative lambs. By the radiant path of the commandment, the way of righteousness, through Thy ascending the cross, Thou didst raise us up into the heavens by Thine ineffable humiliation and voluntary crucifixion.
