RUBRIC: C A N T I C L E of the Sixth Hour of the day, following the *Oġormea* (*Miserere* / Psalm 50 [51]).

The light of the sun was darkened at the sixth hour on Friday, making known that the Creator’s light eclipsed the created light. As You hung naked upon the cross, [the elements] veiled [You] with a shadowy covering. Drive away from us the heavy oppression of the demon that prowleth at noonday. May the weariness of the assault of the evil one, who maketh war at this hour, [having] attached itself to our souls, be repelled by the sign of Your holy Cross. May the beam of Your truth drive off and chase away from us the lightning-bolt fallen from heaven, and kindle us with Your light. At this midday hour of the daytime, delightful to the eyes of this flesh, may we not be wounded by secret arrows from the darkness [that lurketh] in secret. May the legions of angels encamp round about us, who, becoming choristers together with us, glorify You with the Father.
