The day of light, suffering together with You, was darkened for three hours, brightening at the ninth [hour] as a type of the dispelling of the shadow of death. O torch of light most resplendent, You yielded up Your Spirit to the Father; guide us by Your Spirit on the path [to be] joined with You into heaven. The underworld shuddered, the bound souls were released; the rocks were rent by You, the [true] Rock, [and] the dead arose from the tombs. The elements of the earth were shaken, and the pillars of the world trembled; let us who have drunk [of You] entreat You, that we may be numbered among the righteous. You showed wonders at that time, and now may You have mercy upon us; our languishing nature was made whole through You; grant also unto us to be free from pain. In exchange for Your life-giving death, make us alive, O beneficent Lord; we beseech You after the manner of the thief: remember us on the dreadful day.
