“Hear, O my people, and I will testify to you; and O Israel, if you would listen to me. There shall no longer be for you any temporary [novel] gods, nor shall you worship a foreign god. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of the Egyptians; open your mouth, and I will fill it. My people did not listen to my voice, and Israel paid no heed to me. I let them go [abandoned them] to follow after the desires of their own hearts; for they walked according to the desires of their own souls. If only my people had listened to me, or if Israel had walked in my ways! In no time [as if nothing] I would have brought low his enemies, and upon his oppressors I would have cast my hand. The enemies of the Lord were false to him, and their time shall be [punished] forever [in the world]. He fed them from the fat of the wheat, and with honey from the rock he satisfied them.”
