*On the* Eve [*Čragaloycʿ*] of the Nativity [of the Lord].

The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee.

[CANONS] OF THE NATIVITY ACCORDING TO THE EIGHT DAYS [OF THE OCTAVE]

1. Today the Son, who [is] from the Father before all ages, was born; He who is the anointed Lord in the city of David. In the splendor of Your saints, from the womb before the morning star, I begot You. 2. Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, Saint Stephen, and chosen from the womb, true martyr, lover and apostle of the Sender, you received from Christ the crown of the watchful [angels]. 3. John the Forerunner, filled with awe, worshipped from womb to womb; he became a minister of the Word of God, and having heard the awesome voice, he cried out, saying: "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." 4. Rejoice, [thou] full of grace, the Lord [is] with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 5. And thou, child, [shalt be called] the prophet of the Most High.
