135. Lord Dawitʿ VI of Tpʿxis [Tbilisi]. 136. Lord Daniel of Bayazit, Patriarch of Constantinople. 137. Lord Epʿrem of Erevan. In his days, in the year 1820, a synod took place in Constantinople between the Illuminator-faith [Apostolic] and Pope-confessing [Catholic] Armenians, in order to remove from their midst the knot of hatred and to establish the bond of love and unity. In this synod, discussions and inquiries took place concerning the difference of points of faith and rites. Seven learned Venetian *vardapet*s [celibate scholar-priests] also came to that synod along with [their] congregations, and for more than two months they preached the orthodoxy of the Church of the Armenians, and celebrated the Divine Liturgy according to the rite of the Holy Armenian Church. But there were [some] among them who remained in disagreement on account of not commemorating the Pope of Rome during the Divine Liturgy; and because of commemorating only the name of the Catholicos of Holy Ēǰmiacin according to the custom of the Illuminator-faith Armenian churches, they cast disputes and the agitations of discord among the common people instead of love and unity.
